How about a conversation: What do you think about this? (comment below)
We hinder our ability to connect deeply with others by refusing to disclose our vulnerabilities. Share your strengths, create competition, Share your struggles, create community. Isn't this what keeps so many from coming to Christ? Jesus said Matthew 11:28 "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." In the original Greek, the word labor meant: to trouble oneself, to be tired, lose heart. The words heavy laden meant: to be burdened or loaded down. Sounds like Jesus was calling those who would admit their need to experience His rest.
"... the plain truth that, as much as we fight it, we long for the freedom to admit we’re broken. We don’t realize our need to do it. It’s true for every one of us, and it’s most true for those who least realize it."--Kyle Idleman "The End Of Me"
Maybe Eugene Peterson had it right when he used these words for his translation:
Matthew 11:28-30 “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” (The Message by Eugene Peterson)
